Magic in a Blank Canvas

Today I put a fresh white canvas on my easel. Sometimes it can be daunting to look at the vast emptiness, but this time I was struck by the delight I felt in viewing that blank slate. How wonderous to think of the magic that will soon transpire as the gift of creativity and materials come together to create a one of a kind piece. What is now a piece of white emptiness, has the potential to conjure any number of emotions, entice you to dream of new worlds or ponder deepest memories. This blank canvas could be splashed with evocative colour, gently curving lines, or rendered into a building or animal that you are sure you could open the door of, or sink your fingers into its fluffy fur. Every attempt would bring new visions, and a distinctly original blend of materials and colours with the possibilities equalling the number of the stars.

The trick for me sometimes is to stay in that space of wonder and trust that my vision and voice is valid and has purpose and place. So I have carefully placed two reminders within sight of my canvas (a whimsical painting by MarshaZ at Whimsy and Wild Things, and the word PLAY) to reenforce that every attempt to create in this crazy world is valuable!

I encourage you to PLAY !
